Stage 25 offers varied and beautiful nature. The route is characterized by the many small forest lakes you pass during your hike. The trail goes through hilly terrain and, except for the first few kilometers, you only walk on forest trails. At Gåsmyrberget, a fairly steep climb awaits.

You start at the small village of Fliken. There was a cottage here that was one of the largest in the parish in the 1600s. You walk along the road past beautiful old houses and farms. To the left you pass the so-called Färdestugan, which was used as an overnight stay by the farmers who passed through here. The farmers transported iron ore to Gäsjö and pig iron from there and south. Färdestugan is part of the Kärrguvan mining environment and part of the open-air museum Ekomuseum Bergslagen.

You pass road 270 and come to the next village, Kallmora. Mining has been going on in the area around Norberg for over 800 years. Traces of the activity can be found in many places. South of Kallmora is Kärrgruvan where you can visit Mossgruveparken, an abandoned minefield where you walk on paths past water-filled open-cast mines and rush dumps. You can also visit the Polhelmshjulet monument, a huge water wheel that was used to take water out of the mines.

From Kallmora you walk about 1.5 km along a gravel road. At Bengtsberget the road ends and the forest trails take over. After a while you pass quite high above the long narrow Djupkärra-Dammsjön, a nutrient-poor rift valley lake. West of the lake, in the same rift valley, there are several narrow marshes with interesting vegetation.

The hike continues through varied forest, often with elements of rocky outcrops. At Sörntjärnen there is a nice place for a rest. It is also nice to rest at the fishing lakes Näcktjärnen and Sköltjärnen.

Eventually you reach Gåsmyrberget nature reserve. A fairly steep climb takes you up the 185 m high mountain. The mountain is covered with rocky pine forest and at the top there is an old quartz quarry. From the highest point you have great views of the surrounding landscape. On the northwest slope is a cave, Vasagrottan, where Gustav Vasa is said to have sought refuge during his escape from the Danes in 1520.

From Gåsmyrberget it is about 2 km to the stage goal at Lillsjön. At Lillsjön there is a large nice swimming area.

RESTING PLACES

At Fliken where the stage starts, there is a nice bathing place at Lake Gäsen. There are changing cabins, tables, benches and a toilet.

There are rest areas at the fishing lakes Näcktjärnen and Sköltjärnen.

At the Lillsjön stage destination there is a bathing area with large grass areas and plenty of parking spaces. There are jetties, changing cabins, toilets, tables and benches etc.

FLIKEN

There was a cabin in Fliken as early as 1496. By the middle of the 17th century it was one of the largest in the parish. The plant was closed down in 1888. Today there are remains of the blast furnace, canal structures and slag heaps. There is also a manor house from the 1850s at Fliken.

GÅSMYRBERGET NATURE RESERVE

Gåsmyrberget nature reserve was established in 1996, after previously being a domain reserve. The aim is to preserve the rocky pine forest with its flora and fauna and to allow the area to develop freely. The mostly short-grown pines are generally estimated to be around 200 years old. The ground vegetation is dominated by heather and various reindeer lichens.

On the mountain, which reaches about 185 m above sea level, there are a couple of quartz quarries, the upper of which is water-filled. On the western slope there are clear embankments that were formed when the sea reached its highest point after the end of the last ice age.

Cracks on the northwest side of the mountain have created a cave about four meters deep, Vasagrottan, where Gustav Vasa is said to have sought shelter during his escape from the Danes in 1520. The cave is quite difficult to find.

Remember that special regulations apply within the reserve (see the county administrative board's website for more information).
