Paddle around the Pearl of Västerås - Bear
Paddling around Björnön in Mälaren just outside Västerås is a true classic. The tour is 11 km and is an appropriate day stage for beginners. However, beginners should know that this tour takes you out on the outside of Björnön where you can be exposed to both wind and boat waves. The tour is graded as a medium-severe paddling but if it blows, the difficulty level of the tour rises considerably.
You can start your paddling around. Björnö at any brew or beach edge, but a proven favourite is at the [deposit point at Hässlösundet](https:/www.naaturkartan.se/sv/vastmanlands-lan/place-for-kanot-bjornogarden? utm_source=nature map&utm_medium=map) just next to Björnögården. At Björnöngården you will find both toilets, parking and bus stop. Here you can also start or finish your paddling tour with a lovely lunch or coffee at Björnön’s own (HTTPS:/www.waffelbaren.se/). If you need to rent a kayak or canoe, you can do this through [Active Outlive] (https://activelyuteliv.se/vasteras/) which is at Björnögården. Active outdoor life also offers guided day trips and courses in paddling.
Around Björnön there are a number of beach chops and bridges where you can go ashore for a coffee or break. Use the map function in the natural map to find recommended brews and beach chops. A piece from Björnön’s southwest beach edge you will find the uninhabited island of Stora Skärplingen. This is a charming little island that makes for a perfect break stop on your paddling around Björnön. Stay ashore you can do at the small sandy beach.
To paddle around Björnön is a lovely day stage but of course it is great to make this paddling as part of a longer visit to Björnön and Västerås. In the Björnön Frilufts Area there is both camping and stugby where you can spend the night.
